Heating Oil Delivery FAQs
What is heating oil?
Heating oil is a low-viscosity liquid petroleum product refined for use as a heat source. Heating oil goes by several names you might have heard before, including oil, fuel oil, home heating oil, and HHO.
Is home heating oil safe?
Yes! Heating oil is safe, non-explosive, and fire-resistant because of its high flash point of 140° F. Additionally, it has visible warning signs when a heating system malfunction occurs, like smoke, so you will know if your system needs repair or maintenance.
How do I read my heating oil tank levels?
Heating oil tank gauges are located on the top or side of your oil tank and read like a car gas gauge: F (Full), ¾, ½, ¼, or E (Empty). Be sure to request an oil fill when your gauge reads ¼ full.
When should I refill my heating oil tank?
Request an oil delivery when your gauge reads ¼ full, or sign up for automatic delivery to have our expert team monitor your tank levels and schedule fills when you need them!
Does weather affect my heating oil usage?
The weather does impact your heating oil usage. During the colder months, you will use more heating oil to warm your home.
In addition to weather, your heating oil usage will vary due to other factors like heating preferences, home size, and heating equipment efficiency. This is why it’s important to check your tank gauge to better understand your personal oil use and what you can expect during different times of the year.
What appliances can be used with heating oil?
Common oil-fired appliances are furnaces, boilers, and water heaters.
What are the benefits of using home heating oil?
Heating oil is a safe, efficient, and reliable fuel that provides powerful, consistent heat for your home.
Propane Delivery FAQs
What is propane?
Propane is a liquified petroleum gas, also referred to as LP gas, that is made by processing natural gas or refining crude oil. It is nontoxic, colorless, and naturally odorless though an odorant is added for safety purposes.
Is propane safe?
Yes! Propane is a non-toxic, non-poisonous, reliable, clean energy source that is great for home heating and powering many different home appliances. Though propane is a safe fuel, it’s important to use and store it properly, as well as be aware of the warning signs of a gas leak.
How do you detect a propane leak?
The odorant added to propane gas is used to help detect leaks and is described to smell like rotten eggs, skunk spray, or sulfur. If you smell gas, immediately leave the area and call our team immediately: (570) 253-3520.
How do I read my propane tank levels?
You will find your tank gauge at the top of your propane tank, typically under the liftable hood. The numbers on the gauge represent the percentage of gas remaining in your tank. When your tank reaches 30 or 30%, it’s time to contact us for a propane delivery.
When should I refill my propane tank?
You should schedule a propane delivery when your tank reads 30 or 30% full to give our team time to fit you into our schedule and ensure you don’t face a no-fuel emergency.
One of the best ways to ensure you never are without fuel is to enroll in automatic delivery. The Highhouse Energy team will monitor your propane levels for you and schedule fills when you need them.
My propane tank was just filled. Why doesn’t the propane tank read 100% capacity?
An 80% read on a propane tank is considered full. This leaves room for the gas to safely expand if temperatures rise.
What appliances can be used with propane?
Propane is a versatile fuel that can be used to power many home appliances, including furnaces, boilers, water heaters, fireplaces, cooking stoves, gas grills, space heaters, clothes dryers, generators, pool heaters, and more.
What are the benefits of using propane?
Propane provides many benefits. It meets the Environmental Protection Agency’s clean energy standards and produces fewer emissions than many other fuels. It is also non-toxic, burns cleaner, and won’t contaminate soil or water. Plus, propane systems are cost-effective to run and maintain.
Additionally, 90% of propane is produced in the US, which supports energy independence.
How do I determine the propane tank size I need?
The propane tank size you will need depends on a number of factors like what it’s being used on, like whole-home heating, hot water, cooling, or powering appliances, home size, and more.
Our expert team can help you choose the right size tank to meet your needs and handle the installation.
Kerosene FAQs
What is kerosene?
Kerosene is a popular liquid heating fuel that has been around for centuries and is commonly used to heat homes in cold climates.
Is kerosene a good heating fuel option?
Kerosene is a great heating fuel option for homes without basements, including mobile homes, because it can be safely stored in an outside storage tank, even in colder climates.
Kerosene has a lower freezing point than traditional heating oil, which prevents it from gelling or thickening in freezing temperatures.
What type of tank does kerosene use?
Kerosene does not require a special storage tank. If you have a heating oil tank on your property, it can be used to store kerosene.
Diesel Fuel FAQs
Diesel fuel is any liquid fuel specifically designed to use in a diesel engine, which are commonly found in trucks, buses, some cars, construction equipment, and farming equipment.
It is known by several names, including diesel oil and heavy oil.
What is on-road diesel versus off-road diesel?
On-road diesel is used for vehicles that drive on public roads. Off-road diesel is used for equipment not being driven on public roads, like tractors, generators, and construction equipment.
It is illegal to put off-road diesel in a vehicle that drives on roads.
Budget Plan FAQs
How does the budget plan work and how do you determine my estimated fuel costs?
Highhouse Energy uses degree-day technology and your home’s heating history to estimate your heating costs for the heating season. This total is divided into 12 monthly payments and is billed as such.
What if I need more fuel than was predicted?
If you need additional fuel, it will be billed at the daily rate.
What if I need less fuel than was predicted?
If you end your Budget Plan with a credit, it will be applied to next year’s budget.
